David is a volunteer for Blind Veterans UK and regularly does collections in Llandudno on both the high street and in shopping centres. David served in the 11th Hussars (PAO) in Germany in the 1960s.

David said: "I found out through a local advert that Blind Veterans UK was looking for volunteers. I have been retired for some years now and had felt for quite a while that I wanted to do something. I thought that this would be right for me with the background I have. I thought that I could relate in some sort of way to the ex-servicemen and women staying in Llandudno because of my own experiences in the Armed Forces.

"Last year, I was asked to coordinate the collecting around Llandudno, and it was nice to meet with some of the people that were coming out of the Forces. The great thing is that it is not just people that have been in the Forces, there are people from all walks of life that come and volunteer to help out - and it is nice to be able to meet them.

"I think that my background does help form a connection with Blind Veterans UK, but anyone can help with fundraising in their area.

"I think that the work done by Blind Veterans UK is very valuable, and that was one of the reasons why I felt that I should help in the first place. It is a sad fact that some of the men and women who have served in the Armed Forces, due to the unique type of work that they do, are not just physically hurt but mentally hurt as well. It's great to be able to meet the veterans, and feel that you are giving something back.

"It's good to see that there are organisations that give this support, and I would just say, get in touch as there is always something you can do to help."
