Volunteer Home Visitor – Pontyclun, Mid Glamorgan
Time Commitment: An hour or two weekly or biweekly
Blind Veterans UK is looking for a volunteer to visit one of our members. Joining the Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS) in 1944, she served both at home and in Germany during the war. She would love for someone to accompany her in her wheelchair out for a coffee or to look around the local shops on occasion. Our member enjoyed dressmaking and tapestry prior to her sight loss as well as being an active member of the W.I and would enjoy having someone to discuss her former pastimes with.
You will need good communication and listening skills, empathy and patience with people who are visually impaired. A friendly and positive outlook with an understanding of the importance of confidentiality and relationship boundaries are key to this role. We will give you the necessary training, induction and support to be confident and enjoy your volunteering.
If you could spare an hour or two a week to spend some time with this lovely lady, we would really like to hear from you.
