Blind Veterans UK Brighton centre.

Overlooking Brighton and the English Channel, we moved into our centre at Ovingdean in October 1938.

Visually-impaired veterans can come to the centre for their initial visit and assessment. During their introductory week we carefully assess each person's vision impairment, and speak to them and their families about how we can help through training and rehabilitation.

After this visit, our members can come back to our Brighton centre for holidays, respite, residential and nursing care. As well as helping with fitness and mobility, we give veterans with sight loss the skills they need to live an independent life.

If you know of a veteran with sightloss request a callback to discuss FREE support or download an application form.

Centre facilities

Our Brighton centre has all the facilities our blind veterans needs, including an IT suite, art and craft workshop, gym, swimming pool and other sports and recreation facilities.

While most of our 85 bedrooms are for short-term visitors, some are permanent homes for people who need the support, comfort and security of a nursing and residential care home. We are registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Built for Blind Veterans UK

The centre is located outside a small village, Ovingdean, which is four miles outside Brighton. It's a marvellous place that was built for us in the 1930s and designed for blind veterans.

Our large grounds have designated safe pathways.  It is a short walk from the seafront and the South Downs.

Each floor within the building has the same layout to help people keep their bearings, we ask everyone to keep to the rule of the road which is to walk on the right-hand side.
